Pain!

Monday morning my dad woke me to drive my car to the shop and I had bad cramps. Maybe I'm hungry, I thought to myself so I had a bowl of cereal and some ibiproffen before we let. My cramps progressed to get worse until we returned home so I immediately lied down in my bed. I slept for a good 2 hours and upon awaking was looking forward to feeling better, but the lovely post-pain sensation never hit me as I was still in pain. The pain increased for the next couple hours and by 12:30 my mom and I were waiting in the emergency room at the Alberta Children's Hospital. A nurse lady gave me a hot blanket and I napped for an hour until they were ready to see me. My pain had subsided during my little nap but we figured we would still talk to a doctor which was a good idea because I once again experienced extreme pain about a half hour after waking. Once the doctor finally came to see me, my pain had lessened but was still present. He and his colleagues decided that I most likely had a kidney stone. I proceeded to get my blood taken, provided a urine sample and got and ultra-sound. After a discussion with the other doctors at the hospital, it was decided that I would be transferred to Rockyview Hospital as kidney stones in 17 years olds is not what the Alberta children Hospital is best equipped for. At the rocky view I waited in extreme pain in trace until they wheel chaired me to my CT scan. After the scan I vomited for the second time that day and was moved to a bed in emergency. My pain decreased slightly and I was hooked up to an IV. Once my doctor finally came, he told us it would be recommended that I stay the night. I was moved to a semi-private room with a very old lady who had some sort of bladder operation and a great view. During the night I had one extreme fit up pain which was eventually lessened by the tordol/morphine I received through my IV. The Doctors told me that the pain associated with passing a kidney stone is often more painful then child birth. I stayed in the hospital all day Tuesday, mainly sleeping and being in pain and came home Tuesday night. To day is Wednesday and I still can barley walk, but I haven't had and extreme fit of pain since my night in the hospital.

All in all I recommend to stay extremely hydrated in order to avoid kidney stones and after this experience I'm totally ready for childbirth.
